Contractors

There is no guaranteed of a minimum number of assignments per period of time. This is a freelance position, unless otherwise specified in a written contract. Jobs are assigned according to credentials, education, work experience, linguistic competence, specialization, technical capabilities and requirements from our clients.

We carefully select our interpreters and translators.

If you want to apply to work as a translator you would need to fulfill the following minimum criteria:

  • University degree (studies in the target language).
  • University degree in translation, interpretation or linguistics a definitive asset.
  • Professional Certification by CTTIC or be a corresponding member of ATA (if available in your language combination).
  • International certifications are evaluated on an individual basis.
  • 5 years of part time or 3 years full time of documented work experience. Please include the total number of words in your portfolio per year and your specialization.
  • References for translation work.
  • Participation in professional development activities an asset.

If you want to apply to work as a Community Interpreter you would need:

  • College Certificate or University degree in one of your language combinations.
  • Language test CILISAT / ILSAT / CTTIC (if available in your language).
  • Interpreting Training highly recommended.
  • 5 years of part time or 3 years full time documented experience. Please include total number of hours per year and your specialization.
  • References for interpretation work.
  • Participation in professional development activities an asset.
  • Aptitude for interpreting.

If you want to apply to work as a Conference (simultaneous) Interpreter you would need:

  • University degree in your language "A".
  • University degree in translation, interpretation or linguistics a definitive asset.
  • Simultaneous interpreting training
  • Professional Certification as a Conference Interpreter by CTTIC, AICC or to be a corresponding member of ATA. International certifications are evaluated on an individual basis.
  • 5 years of part time or 3 years full time documented experience. Please include total number of hours per year and your specialization.
  • References for simultaneous interpreting work.
  • Participation in professional development activities an asset.

Certification Notice

Please provide the proper certification information. We only recognize as "Certified" translators or interpeters those that have passed the CTTIC exam in Canada or the ATA exam in the USA.

We accept other credentials as "certificates" for courses and "certificates" for language proficiency tests as part of your portfolio but not as "Official Certification".

Some definitions:

Accredited Interpreter or translator

Interpreter or translator who has passed the screening criteria of a particular organization and has been awarded a certain recognition or accreditation. An accredited interpreter or translator is NOT a Certified Interpreter or Translator.

Certificate

A document, such as a certificate of attendance or completion, that attests to participation in a course of study and attainment of some learning objective. A person who holds a certificate related to interpreter or translation training is NOT thereby certified.


Certification

A process by which a professional organization attests to or certifies that an individual is qualified to provide a particular service. Certification calls for formal assessment, using an instrument that has been tested for validity and reliability, so that the certifying body can be confident that the individuals it certifies have the qualifications needed to do the job. A training certificate does NOT make an interpreter or translator certified.

Certified Interpreter or Translator

A professional interpreter or translator who is certified as competent by a professional organization through rigorous testing based on appropriate and consistent criteria. Interpreters or translators who have had limited training or have taken a screening test administered by an employing legal, health, or referral agency are NOT considered certified.
